CAS Responsible Business Conduct

Content of 2024

The Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) is structured into five mandatory modules. The first two modules set the necessary base for the program with the fundamental principles of Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) and RBC due diligence. In the third module, participants engage in collaborative teamwork, tackling real case studies and exploring RBC best practices. The remaining two modules delve into specialized topics considering participants’ specific interests and professional needs, providing them with in-depth expertise relevant to their work.

The final module combines a self-study component with two virtual classes scheduled in the last part of the semester. In a specially designed (virtual) class, participants will present their case studies, followed by an extensive and collaborative discussion within the virtual classroom. This flexible structure allows participants to progress through the last module at their own pace.

Modules Organisation

Module 1 “Foundations of RBC” introduces and analyzes the concept of Responsible Business Conduct based on the UNGP, the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and the current regulatory global framework and its developments.

Module 2 “Due Diligence” focuses on the concept and application of RBC due diligence with its six step-approach in business activities.

Module 3 “Group Projects” will involve participants to work collaboratively on some of the most recent and significant cases while discussing due diligence best practices and effective access to remedy.

Module 4 “In-depth Study” investigates crucial topics such as: Human Rights, Finance, Labor, Bribery and Corruption, Environment, and Digitalization from an RBC perspective - with a special session devoted to RBC challenges related to post-conflict reconstruction and development plans.

Module 5 “Individual Case Study” will require participants to find a subject in the field of RBC, that is of relevance for them and develop a case study about this topic. This individual case study is the final work concluding the Certificate, and it is a prerequisite for completing it.
